Reminiscence Digital Stories (2008)

“One can think of digital storytelling as the modern extension of the ancient art of storytelling, now interwoven with digitized still and moving images and sound” wikipedia

I love the accessibility of digital storytelling, it allows anyone to tell their story simply and effectively. These three stories were created with a group of elders at Knowle West Health Association to create digital stories about stories from their past. Each participant came up with a unique story, about a relationship that had shaped or transformed their lives.

For some it was an introduction to digital technology and provided a new way of recording and sharing their memories. The simplicity of the form makes it very accessible. We used still images and spoken narrative – digital stories can also combine moving image, text, animation and music – to create these three short, meaningful pieces. Each is a snapshot into someone’s life and emotions.

“The children were machine gunned in the playground of Connaught rd School when we were going to the shelter, so we were evacuated to Devon” Ruby

“When I think back on our first date, I remember I could have gone out with him or his mate Ron, I’m glad I made the right choice” Beatrice

“Until this time I’d never been out of this country, but it gave me the confidence to travel the world alone” Mabs
