St Paul’s Carnival Film (2002)

A short documentary behind the scenes of St Paul’s Carnival.

In 2000, 2001 and 2003 I worked as part of a team of artists creating the costumes for Carnival day. We worked within schools supporting children to make costumes based on the themes of (respectively) ‘Trade’, ‘Past, present and future’ and ‘Unity though community’.

I wanted to show something of the process and team effort behind Carnival day – creative, hectic, collaborative and intense. I teamed up with a camera woman from CEED and an editor working at HTV to put together a short film documenting this journey.

It’s the music, it’s the colours, it’s really vibrant. It brings everyone together”

“When the schools are out there, when you see them all, it’s going to be amazing. Amazing!” Ruth Ramsey, Carnival Artist
